Le Cantorie - Azienda agricola in Franciacorta

High grounds covered by splendid vineyards and enriched by small rural buildings scattered here and there, little churches and monasteries up the high ground, towers and medieval suburbs, sixteenth-century palaces, historic patrician eighteenth-century mansions and restored ancient farm houses: this is Gussago, sunny village extending southwards the lake of Iseo, a territory praising very ancient farm traditions and particularly devoted to the cultivation of vineyards.

The term Franciacorta, denomination which evokes transalpine influences, identifies a strip of land of the province Brescia spreading in the northeast part of the town.

A territory delimited northwards by the shores of the lake Iseo and by the last branching of the Rhaetian Alps cutting through the Val Camonica and the Val Trompia; eastwards it is delimited by sweet and round morainic hills seeming a great rocky amphitheatre, formed presumably in the ice age after the withdrawal of glaciers; westwards by the left shore of the river Oglio; southwards by a flat sub-hills strip and by the Monte Orfano.

The specific conformation of the morainic territory, composed of sand, silt and pebbles, the uncommon richness of minerals and primary elements for the vineyards growing as well as the peculiar structure of the subsoil which grants to the territory excellent draining of the waters, are distinctive marks of Franciacorta, region which is predestined to vineyard growing and oenology from time immemorial.
